Now those amongst you who attend local business events on a regular basis might ask ‘What sector can we possibly have left to recognise?’ A fair point since it does sometimes feel that every month has its fair share of award ceremonies for industry excellence or community contribution; what is perhaps not so commonly known is that our region’s women have not to date had proportionate representation within the existing awards calendar.
Stepping up to the plate, Women in Management UK identified the need to ensure that the outstanding female members of our business and social community were being given the accolade they so thoroughly deserved. In introducing the East Midlands Women’s Awards they hope that there will be an annual platform from which the region can showcase their successful and inspiring women who contribute so strongly to the region’s stability and future development.
The inaugural awards gala is to take place on 22nd September 2017 at The Falcon Hotel, Uppingham. A great venue, fit for such an occasion, and one ably supported by this year’s main business partner, the Uppingham Business Forum. There will be 10 categories in total which will reflect activities across the social spectrum, from ambitious entrepreneurs to community champions; the winners on the evening will be those who have shown extraordinary talent in the contribution they have made.
EMWA Founder, Sandra Pollock said in a statement
“The East Midlands is full of high achieving women working in all sectors. Unfortunately, there is no regional celebration or recognition the outstanding contribution women are making to our economy, our innovation, creativity, community or business development. Up until now there have been no East Midlands Regional Women’s Awards. I’ve felt it was time this oversight needed was addressed. Not only for women working today, but to create a vision for young women and girls to aspire to.”
As well as being heralded as a must-attend event, the awards also provide the opportunity for East Midlands organisations to get involved through a variety of support and sponsorship packages. Whilst providing a great route to business visibility across local and social media channels, association with such a worthy cause also clearly illustrates a commitment to equality and ethical business practice.
If you would like to know more about the awards evening or would be interested in getting involved, simply contact Sandra Pollock at Women in Management UK and ask for some detail about this great addition to the annual business calendar.
